Video: Small Things Like These. A discussion of a psychological portrait

Join me as I talk through my recent psychological portrait of Bill Furlong, from Claire Keegan’s Small Things Like These (Faber Books).

In this video, I briefly present my formulation of Bill to accompany my psychological portrait. I have used a Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) based approach to consider the events that have shaped Bill and are likely to have influenced his journey across the pages of Small Things Like These.

I’m planning on doing more video discussions which will hopefully bring to life my work here as I find new ways to communicate the application of a psychological lens to literature and popular culture.

  1. Mind maps are great! But no sound available on your video. My friend says the same.

    1. Thanks Kathleen, that’s really helpful feedback – I hadn’t realised this! I’ve had a look and if you click on the icon right next to the play icon it turns on the sound. I’ll look into it and see if I can get it to play with sound automatically as this isn’t ideal that you have to press it yourself.

Thanks so much, Stuart. Are you referring to the icon that looks like a camera more or less in the middle of the screen, to the left the Play arrow, or the row of short lines to the right of the other smaller Play arrow down at the bottom? I’ve tried clicking on both of those, but nothing yet.

  2. Fingers crossed that’s it fixed now. I’ve tested it out on my phone and on the computer and looks like it is playing with sound now. Please let me know if there’s any more problems. Also all my videos can be seen on my instagram and other social media links which you can find on here. Thanks again for reading.
